Self-esteem is the confidence and satisfaction a person has in him/herself. It's the positive or negative way in which one evaluates one's values, feelings, attitudes, beliefs, fears, desires, strengths and weaknesses.
The Body Image Network is a group of individuals and organizations committed to promoting a positive social environment through sharing information on body image, self-esteem, obesity and eating disorders. We are academics, advocates, researchers, dietitians, social workers, counselors, psychologists, doctors, teachers, nurses and students. The current Co-Chairs of the Body Image Network are psychologist Anne Wareham and nursing faculty and PhD candidate Pamela Ward.
The Body Image Network exists to promote positive body image and prevent eating disorders for all. Through education, awareness, research, advocacy and collaboration we encourage eating well, being active and feeling good about oneself. We provide education sessions for professionals and students. We distribute current information to professionals and to the general public. We organize awareness events and speak in the media. We review, conduct and participate in research. We advocate for the inclusion and promotion of positive messages related to body image in the media, school and curricula. We continue to build the Network and identify and build partnerships in the community.
At the moment we are unable to offer presentations except by training. We are currently reorganizing.
